Dark Chao Info
Dark Chao are similar in size to Neutral Chao or Hero Chao, but have their own distinguishing features. First of all, they have a dark red-brown color with magenta and violet edges on their hands and feet. Also, instead of a small mark at the center of their belly, there is a light pink mark in the shape of a crescent the top of its chest.
Dark Chao have a pink spikeball hovering above them instead of a sphere. They also have wings just like any other Chao, but they resemble bat wings. The eye colors are similar to a Hero Chao's, but the black outline has been replaced with sky blue. There is still white in the eye's center, however.
To get a Dark Chao, one must feed it Dark Fruit and raise that Chao with Shadow, Rouge, and Dr. Eggman. Dark Fruit can be bought at the Black Market at the Chao Kindergarten in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. In Sonic Adventure DX, and they can be found in the Black Market as well, and they are now required to get a Dark Chao because only heroic characters can be played in that game. A Dark Chao can also evolve into a Dark Chaos Chao, also known as a Devil Chao, but it can only evolve this way during the its third evolution. After it has been reborn twice, one must give the Dark Chao one of every small animal (contrary to popular belief, you can give it just a few Chaos Drives). It will then evolve into a Dark Chaos Chao. A Dark Chao also appears in Sonic Heroes, throwing mines at you during the Special Stages. They also appear in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, giving you several missions.
- In Sonic Rivals, the card with the Devil Chao mistakenly says Dark Chao.

Hero Chao Info
Hero Chao is a type of Chao that is found in Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, and in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. They look similar to the Neutral Chao, only with a couple of changes. Instead of light blue with yellow tips on its head, hands, and feet, it's white with blue tips, and instead of there being a tip on the top of its head, the head is round and has two small Hero Chao (Sonic Tweet Artwork)circles on the very top. Plus, instead of having a (not so wide) tanish-colored oval in the center of its belly like the Neutral Chao, the Hero Chao has a light yellow oval in the belly's center. It's sometimes hard to see it. Also, the B&W colors on the chao's eyes are switched from black with a white outline to white with black outline.
One can evolve a chao into a Hero Chao by feeding them Hero Fruit, and raise that Chao with Sonic, Tails, and/or Knuckles. Once they go into their first cocoon, the Chao will be a Hero Chao. The only way to get Hero Fruit, without cheats, is to buy them at the Chao Kindergarten's Black Market (only available in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Adventure DX).
One can evolve a Hero Chao into a Hero Chaos Chao, also known as an Angel Chao. To get this kind, a chao must be a Hero Chao, and has gone through two reincarnations already. This means one must first let the chao die twice and be reborn. Chao will usually be reborn if they were treated nicely. Once the Chao is on its third life they'll have to receive at least one of all the small animals (which can be found in the game's stages, except for Route 101, and Route 280 before the Chao has evolved to the second stage of its third life.
